A little about Mrs. Ukrisna...
Originally from New Jersey, Mrs. Ukrisna would spend her summers hiking, swimming, kayaking, and adventuring into New York City! Her love for music and teaching was sparked by a memorable middle school band director (thank you Mr. Barrieres!), enough so that she decided to dedicate her life to this passion!
Mrs. Ukrisna attended Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY where she graduated cum laude with a double degree in Music Education and Flute Performance. Here, she received several performance awards including the Elliot Magaziner Award and the Michael L. Falacaro Award. Additionally, she was invited into Manhattanville's first annual Students of Great Achievement program. During her time at Manhattanville she spent a semester abroad volunteering with the Mother Theresa Missionaries of Charities in Kolkata, India. This trip sparked Mrs. Ukrisna's "wanderlust" where upon graduation she was accepted to a New York University program in collaboration with the Kodaly Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary. Here she studied elementary pedagogy and ethnomusicology. Through this program Mrs. Ukrisna became connected with Project Zero - Arts and Passion Driven Learning, where she spent time studying at Harvard University concluding in a collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. In July 2020 Mrs. Ukrisna graduated with her Masters in Music Education from Central Washington University - Go Wildcats!
In 2013, Mrs. Ukrisna moved to Los Angeles where she started teaching elementary general music and band with LAUSD. She was also the flute teaching artist for the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles at the Heart of Los Angeles location in DTLA. In 2015, Mrs. Ukrisna taught vocal music at El Segundo Middle School and in 2016 she was proud to call Richmond Street her new permanent home! You can frequently find her posting cat pictures of her two wonderful cats named Mama and Marble, and of her husband Keith.
